South West Sustainable Construction Network

The Trust is working to see the formation of a formal or informal South West Sustainable Construction Network to enable Councils and other organisations in the South West - including Development Trusts, architects, developers and Housing Associations - to share experience and knowledge in order to be more effective in promoting and encouraging more sustainable approaches to construction and development.

The specific purpose of the Network is to encourage the initiation of local sustainable construction strategies, with the potential for the South Somerset approach to be adapted or adopted by others.

The Trust has received a great deal of interest in our work in Somerset and beyond, and in the proposals to extend this activity across the region, from many councils and other local, regional and national organisations. Six local / sub-regional partnerships are proposed and being developed informally by relevant local organisations, within the wider south-west regional network. These are:

  • Somerset, West and North Dorest, Wiltshire, Avon (as was), North and Mid Devon County Council, and Cornwall

We will be encouraging others to join with us to establish the network. If you are interested in being involved in the network or in finding out how we may be able to help get things moving in a sustainable direction in your area please contact the STSD office.

The rest of this page in the website provides a summary of a recent bid (November 2001) to the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions for Special Grants Programme (SGP) funding for 2002 to 2005.
